Holiday Decorating Safety
With Christmas approaching, you might be ready to decorate your tree with your favorite trimmings and hang lights outside your home. Enjoy your holiday traditions safely by taking simple precautions:
- Shop for fresh trees, which stay green longer, and are less susceptible to fire than dry trees. If you prefer an artificial tree, shop for those labeled “fire resistant”
- Do not hang any Christmas lights on your home or tree that are broken or need repair, and turn off tree lights when you leave home or go to sleep
- Avoid hanging lit candles on Christmas trees or placing them on a table or shelf next to the tree
- Read directions carefully when using artificial snow products, and do not inhale spray from the containers
